Tile and Marble.\u00a0 Failure to provide workers\u2019 compensation insurance is a third degree felony under <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leg.state.fl.us\/Statutes\/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&amp;URL=0400-0499\/0440\/0440ContentsIndex.html&amp;StatuteYear=2013&amp;Title=-%3E2013-%3EChapter%20440\" target=\"_blank\">Chapter 440 of the Florida Statutes.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Back in June, two employees of K.C. Tile and Marble were working at a construction site when they were struck by lightning.\u00a0 One employee survived; the other did not.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Because of the employer\u2019s failure to secure workers\u2019 compensation coverage for its employees, the family of the worker who died was not able to collect death benefits which would have potentially been available to them under workers\u2019 compensation.\u00a0 These benefits include funeral expenses up to $7,500.00, compensation to dependents, and benefits to the surviving spouse, up to a maximum of $150,000.00. The surviving employee would have been entitled to medical care and lost wage benefits.
