{"id":767,"date":"2020-09-29T10:19:44","date_gmt":"2020-09-29T14:19:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.joannhoffman.com\/blog\/?p=767"},"modified":"2020-09-29T10:19:44","modified_gmt":"2020-09-29T14:19:44","slug":"florida-frontline-workers-are-covered-for-covid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.joannhoffman.com\/blog\/florida-frontline-workers-are-covered-for-covid\/","title":{"rendered":"FLORIDA FRONTLINE WORKERS ARE COVERED FOR COVID"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As we attempt to navigate through unchartered waters, the concern for most workers who return to work \u2013 whether you are a frontline worker or in the private sector and have no alternative but to work \u2013 is whether or not you will be covered under Florida Workers\u2019 Compensation Laws if you contract Coronavirus (COVID-19).\u00a0 The good news is you are covered if you are a Florida frontline employee.<\/p>\n<p>Are private sector workers covered for covid? It is not easy as the private worker must prove that Covid or Coronavirus which is considered an occupational disease, was contracted due to a unique risk or exposure <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-769 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joannhoffman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/pic-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"pic-200x300\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.joannhoffman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/pic-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.joannhoffman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/pic-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/www.joannhoffman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/pic-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.joannhoffman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/pic-1024x1536.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.joannhoffman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/pic-1365x2048.jpg 1365w, https:\/\/www.joannhoffman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/pic-667x1000.jpg 667w, https:\/\/www.joannhoffman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/pic-80x120.jpg 80w, https:\/\/www.joannhoffman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/pic-scaled.jpg 1707w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>hazard at work; was contracted during employment; and that the nature of employment was the major contributing cause of the disease. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leg.state.fl.us\/statutes\/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&amp;URL=0400-0499\/0440\/0440.html\">Florida law 440.151<\/a>.\u00a0 This burden is not an easy burden to satisfy, especially for private sector worker which includes, but not limited to, grocery employees, office employees, laborers, support staff workers, restaurant employees, etc.\u00a0 However, as of late, the burden for state frontline workers is no longer as stringent.<\/p>\n<p>In April 2020, Florida Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis directed the Division of Risk Management to provide workers&#8217;
