Gil Godfrey, Of Counsel to Jo Ann Hoffman & Associates, has been a member of the Florida Bar, in good standing, and a member of the trial bar of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida for over 40 years now. He's represented a varied array of clients, including Fortune 500 companies, employers of all shapes and sizes, insurance carriers, servicing agents, third party administrators, doctors, nurses, hospitals, nursing homes, paramedics, manufacturers, retailers, municipalities and geneticists, as well as a host of other aggrieved, disadvantaged and deserving individuals. He's merited an AV rating by the prestigious Martindale-Hubbell, through both peer and judicial reviews, for the last 26 years, as a "reflection of having achieved the highest levels of professional skill and integrity."
He's spoken and lectured at gatherings of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers, as well as audiences of lawyers and other legal specialists, on a variety of topics, including attorney's fees, employer's liability, major contributing cause, subrogation, civil procedure, ethics and legal immunity. He's tried dozens of cases to judges and juries alike in venues all across the State of Florida involving medical malpractice, workers' compensation, catastrophic injury, toxic exposure, occupational disease, products liability, personal injury, wrongful death, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and insurance coverage disputes.
He's presented appellate briefs and delivered winning oral arguments to the First District Court of Appeal, the Third District Court of Appeal, and the Fourth District Court of Appeal, as well as the Florida Supreme Court. In Ter Keurst v. Miami Elevator Company, 486 So. 2d 547, the Supreme Court affirmed the defense verdict he'd secured at the trial level, while also decreeing just how peremptory challenges were to be exercised, how juries were thereafter to be selected in the state. He's also a Certified Instructor of Insurance Education in the State of Florida, as well as a state-certified Mediator. He's been invited to serve as a neutral arbitrator in a number of civil disputes as well as a Moot Court Judge at the Phillip C. Jessup Competition, as sponsored by the International Law Students Association.
He graduated from Lafayette College, in Easton, Pennsylvania, with a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, was awarded the Gilbert Prize in English and was elected to Phi Alpha Theta, the History Honor Society. He graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans with a Juris Doctor from the School of Law, after earning moot court accolades. He's possessed with a boundless curiosity and an indefatigable energy and stands ready for whatever challenges might come his way.
