In Loving Memory of Jo Ann Hoffman
Firm Founder and Pioneering Injury Attorney
Jo Ann Hoffman dedicated her life to justice for her clients. For over 45 years, she was a powerful voice for the injured, bringing unmatched dedication and compassion to her clients and her firm. Her tireless work ethic and fearless advocacy made her a pillar of workers’ compensation and personal injury law in the community.
Jo Ann’s journey toward justice began in her childhood in Indiana. After witnessing her own mother receive an unfairly small settlement following an accident, Jo Ann knew her life’s mission was to help those who were hurt and vulnerable. That moment shaped her path toward law, and she never wavered.
A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Indiana University, Jo Ann earned both her Master of Business Administration and her Law Degree with honors from Indiana University. She launched her career litigating civil cases for the City of Indianapolis and later gained invaluable experience representing insurance companies—an experience that sharpened her ability to evaluate and fight cases from the other side.
Ultimately, Jo Ann found her calling in representing injured plaintiffs. In 1985, she founded what would become Attorneys Jo Ann Hoffman & Associates, PA. Jo Ann’s practice area first focused on litigating and settling workers’ compensation cases. The legal industry was a male-dominated field at the time, and she soon became known as “The Queen of Comp”. Jo Ann’s law practice flourished over the years to personal injury. Her cases spanned motor vehicle accidents, truck crashes, slip and falls, construction injuries, and complex litigation, including representing victims of the tragic United Airlines crash in Sioux City, South Dakota.
Jo Ann was known for walking the accident scene herself, believing deeply in understanding every detail of her clients’ experiences. Her relentless compassion led her to champion injured workers under the Defense Base Act, extending her advocacy to contractors and civilians injured in war zones across the globe.
Her reputation in the legal and local community was exceptional. In 2023, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Workers’ Compensation from the Broward County Bar Association—a crowning honor that reflected her decades of unwavering service to injured workers and their families.
Jo Ann passed away peacefully in July 2025, leaving behind a legacy of strength, service, and unwavering justice. She is survived by her daughter, Christie Gibbons, who stepped into her mother’s role in 2023 as the head of Attorneys Jo Ann Hoffman & Associates, continuing the mission side by side with her mother and now in her honor.
Her passion lives on in the firm she built, now carried forward by a devoted team of attorneys, legal professionals, and staff who embody her values every day. Jo Ann Hoffman lived a life of purpose, adventure, and love—and the lives she touched will never forget her.
"Helping the Injured was her passion. Her legacy is our mission."
